2Empirical research of human perception of loudness and sight justified that the perceived loudness and perceived brightness are proportional to the logarithm of the actual intensity. This is i.e. incorporated in the definition of the scale of loudness, measured in phone, and the physical measure of sound intensity, measured in db (Sacklowski and Röhrl 1973).
